Whitton, January, 2017: Whitton RFC and Half Backs Sport are excited to announce the launch of rugby-based play sessions for two to six year olds at Whitton Park Sports Association beginning on Saturday 18th February 2017 and running each week thereafter.
“It gives Whitton Lions RFC great pleasure to team up with Half Backs Sport ltd. to bring rugby to two to six year olds in and around the Local Community.” Commented Whitton Lions RFC “The sessions will be held at the Whitton Park Sports Association and will make use of the great facilities on offer at the venue. Half Backs is the perfect starting point for any children aspiring to join a local rugby club. Half Backs have a strong track record of working with local rugby clubs so we are delighted that they have chosen Whitton Lions RFC for their next venture.”
Working in partnership, the two organisations will be offering Half Backs’ fun, and active rugby-based play sessions with the first session on the 18th February 2017 at 10am. A free first session is offered to all children so they can come and find out for themselves just how much fun rugby can be.

“Having had such great success working with rugby clubs in the past we are so excited to be setting up a new site with Whitton RFC who are such a great family focused club” commented Heather Smith Half Backs Director. “We encourage families with two to six year olds to get involved and are offering free trials for our sessions in Whitton.”
Half Backs’ aim is to be the physical activity of choice for children aged two to six, by providing professionally run, safe and educational early development through rugby union. At a Half Backs session, children can develop teamwork and sportsmanship as well as fundamental movement skills such as running, jumping, passing and catching and kicking. All sessions are game-based and full of fun, led by experienced rugby coaches or teachers.
About Whitton lions RFC
Whitton Lions is one of the newest rugby clubs, affiliated to Middlesex Rugby since October 2011. Founded to bring the sport to Whitton in South West London, a town which has never had its own team despite being walking distance to the home of English rugby at Twickenham Stadium. Since its founding, the club has been playing in the Middlesex Merit Leagues and last season was promoted to Division 5.
We take both the playing and the social sides of our sport seriously – we train once a week (Wednesdays). The Club’s Social Planning team strive to organise events at Whitton Park and in the local area.
We are always on the lookout for new players to join the pride – we have a great track record with bringing new players into the sport, or welcoming players back into the game after a long break. So whether you’re a bright young-un who wants to continue playing after school or university, or you haven’t picked up a ball in a decade and you’re wondering whether you would enjoy a run out, we are happy to accommodate.
